It’s an interesting concept of people being plucked from different planets, made to work under harsh condition I first came across this book in a library when I was in middle school but I never finished reading it and with it being so long, it was pretty much new to me minus knowing Kris was stuck on a planet similar to Earth in being able to sustain life but different in most other ways.
The last biggie poplyanna me is the totally silly way the human race defends itself against the zombies. Beware, the next section is a mild if LONG spoiler: What was even more of a shock for me was just how far some countries went!
I’ve got ahead of myself having written the conclusion already, I might as well quit joa

So they kind of just talked about the military aspects of the war, and while that may be really exciting for some people to read about, it just wasn’t for me. I shall have to sit alone in the library, other readers keeping a wide berth for fear of contagion, but I cannot tell a lie and I stand by my pronouncement: I couldn’t grab on to any of the many characters because as soon as I started to get invested in their story their segment was OVER and the interviewer would move along to someone else.
The “bad guys” were all talk, they never did anything and, actually, they didn’t even talk that much after a while. Turns out I was bored and had to skim through the last part Since then a number of good zombie movies have come out, but they don’t translate well into novels.
Particularly in first world countries, we are so complacent with “knowing all the answers” and controlling everything that the mental toll of facing a problem we can not solve would be just as damaging as the physical threat.
Leaves you on a slight cliffhanger at the end. To be fair, it was really more like 1. Just a moment while we sign you in to your Goodreads account. So, not Anne McCaffrey’s best work. If you like Sci-Fi, humor, adventure and alien concepts, this is your book. You may even call it racist, if it weren’t shallow. I remember reading “I Am Legend” and this was the biggest issue in that fine book, too.
Kris herself was a bit too Mary Sue for my liking, as well. Are they also out of ammunition? She has some irritating quirks, like her constant correction of Zainal’s grammar, and her irritating modesty. As human slaves were herded into the maw of a massive vessel, Kristin realized her normal life was over and her fight for freedom was just beginning… The alien Catteni value strength and intelligence in their slaves—and Kristin has managed to survive her enslavement w Kristin Bjornsen lived a normal life, right up until the day the spaceships floated into view above Denver.
As bad as it seemed, there was a lot of love and caring in this dysfunctional type “family”. However, recently, I decided to read the fourth book, but if I was going to do that, I’d have to re-read the first three, since I barely remember them.

One of my favorite books of all time. I strongly reccomend this book and plan on reading other McCaffrey books in the near future. This book has an interesting plot, with enough action to keep one’s interest. Almost eve To be fair, it was really more like 1.
My favorite thing livr the book is the concept of world building.
