Got a little redundant. Of his books, this is the most accessible and famous. Bodhisattva Sanskrit byang chub sems dpa Tibetan A spiritual trainee who has generated the altruistic mind of boddhicitta and is on the path to full enlightenment. Apparently it’s a introduciton overview of what tantra is all about.
But it really comes up short not offering any meditational practices, instead merely saying to seek out an experienced guru. I introdduction a primary source overview of what tantra actually is in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, as background understanding for research in lucid dreams and Tibetan dream yoga.
The guru’s energy of great tatra, great love, great wisdom and great skill take seed in us so that we ourselves come to embody these limitlessly beneficial qualities. We have to ydshe that the attainment of enlightenment completion, buddhahood, totality, or whatever we want to call it is not only a theoretical possibility but something that people like us can and do actually achieve.

It’s too bad that the word “tantra” carries so much baggage. Deity-yoga is envisioning oneself as a deity so as to take on said deity’s attributes, and guru-yoga is leaning upon another faulty human being, a guru, and essentially worshipping this person as another deity as you attempt to mesh both the deity and guru with your own inner guru.
This book is not yet featured on Listopia. The whole reason for inttroduction your consciousness manifest as a divine light-being with one thousand arms is so that you can lend a hand to one thousand suffering beings. The last few chapters such as “Entering Highest Tantric Practice” and sections on deity yoga and the process of dying and were particularly inspirational. Before we can board the lightning vehicle of tantra, we have to understand why it is both necessary and possible to abandon our ordinary, limited view of ourselves and generate in its place the enlightened self- identity of inrroduction fully evolved being.
During the reading of this book, I started to enjoy the beauty of the people but then be very happy to have seen them and tp let them go, energetically. Two stars for the nice Buddhist thoughts. Might just turn you inside-out, in a lovely way.
Although it is true that bodhicitta is the most important prerequisite for tantric practice, in fact, it is more accurate to say that the opposite is true; that the purpose of practising tantra is to enhance the scope of one’s bodhicitta.
I found this to be too much like a textbook.
May be one of the most impactful books I’ve read all year. I’m also reading several of his more obscure books, which I’m getting a lot out of but I would be hesitant to recommend them to anyone else I know, unless they were as obsessed with combining tantra, humanism, mysticism, and social justice as I am — oh, and if you meet someone like that, be sure to give them my phone number.

Excellent description of Tibetan Buddhist Tantra; the transformation of desire and pleasures into transcendental experiences of deep penetrative awareness; this is absolutely amazing! Thanks for telling us about the problem. Some parts felt repetitive but overall very good.
They are invitations to suppress rational thought. Personally, I enjoyed the style and content and found the ideas very intriguing – but I shy away from organized religion and power hierarchies, and tantra as outlined here does seem to depend on such things.
