Archive Current edition Subscribe. The book ends as lackluster as it began, and I am definitely inconeivable impressed. Overall “Inconceivable” is sometimes funny, sometimes sad, but always compelling reading.
This was a very clever way of showing how differently people react to the same event but also the confusion when one person doesn’t understand why the other person reacts differently to them. She can’t seem to get pregnant. Ben Elton’s sixth book “Inconceivable” is the story of married couple Sam and Lucy and their attempts to have a baby.
You can’t countenance that theory when the entire book is based on purely separate diary entries they’ve both been writing for the entirety of the novel.
For example, while Lucy deals with the constant ‘probing’ of doctors with stoic pragmatism, Sam dreads the looming ‘legal tug’ he has been practising for since puberty as only a man can. I don’t even know where to begin with this book, I thought it was horrible. This was a good idea but does become repetitive and annoying. I normally love Ben Elton’s writing, but this, for me, was the worst of the bunch.

You can empathize with both characters and you get to see the same story from two view points. Making love, becomes a chore and primarily about conceiving. The book is set up as the two main characters’ diaries as they pursue fertility treatment. Nigel 17th July I respect the way in which Elton manipulated the two points of view to convincingly portray a couple’s malfunction of communication.

I found most of the novel predictable and dull, and the resolution was eltin short and under-developed. Growing Up Ethnic in America. The story has great one liners that will make even the person with the least sense of humour in the world to crack a smile.
