Book 3 doesnt serve a real purpose, as you wont rely on rtk method once you need those rarer kanji. Its generally agreed to be better to learn it as you learn vocab.

The book is mainly focused on the Chinese readings, however one chapter does suggest a mnemonic device for learning the Japanese readings.
