By age 10 they are liberated from edewhon and have to get into some kind of apprenticeship with someone who is practicing this or that profession in order to learn it.

Both books kept me reading erewhoh wondering what was going to happen and he proves he realises how hypocritcal the church is as his main character turns out to have managed to get a couple of Erwhonian women pregnant. It’s also rather slow at the beginning, but it does tell a good story.
