Most of the crime fiction I’ve read admittedly a fairly small sampling deals more with those trying to stop or solve the crimes. Won’t blow you away with his writing, but the stories mantia good, and, having spent long stretches in prison, he knows the world and people he writes about.

That being said, I got this from the library, and was thrilled to find a particular section–where the main character states his badass criminal’s credo–circled with a bright pink highlighter. The characters are well drawn, obviously given Bunker’s background he knows these sort of eddard well, and it shows. Open Preview See a Problem? A dark and unsettling view of three Felons efward after incarceration from the state system. The writing is terse, gritty and punchy and more realistic than the average crime novel. Combined they have spent a lifetime behind bars and have no idea, or intention, of leading a straight life under rules set by a system they have never belonged to.

Bunker tells it like it is in real life, not like we see on television every night. I enjoyed this book — the pace and the style of storytelling — and I am looking forward to the upcoming movie.
