The impact that these books have on the characters’ lives, however, is difficult to understand. Unlike a slavic fable, for example, totems or talismans such as violins or clocks or books are not starting points for flights of fancy. Can someone please let me know what audience you think this is suited for. While Sijie builds tension very well he never really delivers. The siijie is a play on “le complexe d’Oedipe”, or “the Oedipus complex”. There is not even enough information for readers to fill in the gaps on their own. And there is a dearth of human stories coming out of midth century China, so we could have done with a good one.
First off, the characters are wooden, and hard to identify with. Sometimes t story has such an unsatisfying ending that I would rather have not read it at all.

The most nebbish character, son of a doctor, ends up getting an abortion for his friend’s girlfriend, without his friend ever knowing about the baby. The book starts of fine, a quick and interesting plot captivates the jven and the authors imagery techniques compliment that beautifully. The narrator on the other hand, bwlzac his distance out of respect for his best friend’s relationship with the seamstress, loves her for who she is. I expected something good, something profound in such a short story. She actually could have been a lot more interesting had the author bothered to exert himself with her development. The main problem is that the women in this novel play ONLY the role of sexual objects.
At the same time, he always complains about her lack of education, telling the narrator, that he will teach her the ways of the world and that way, he will make coturera an educated woman. While every part that DID deal with the Cultural Revolution was well-penned and I want more of it, and the little nuances of the moven, especially early on, were endearing, this was in the end a disappointment.

A quick read for the story, but ultimately sort of empty. The thing with the old preacher helping the protagonists with their trouble don’t want to make any spoilers coeturera struck me as not too well thought out, for why would he want to help them with this particular problem?
It says National Bestseller on the front, and I have to wonder how that happened.
For me, “Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress” is closer to a short story than anything else, because it has roughly pages which makes it finish-able in one day.
This book is not yet featured on Listopia. As well as for one of the boys to befriend the little seamstress and knock her up before leaving it up to his friend to try and find her a place for an abortion when it’s illegal to not only have an abortion, but to get married before 25 years of age. Sijie himself was re-educated from towhich is when this novel takes place.

So Mao was, after all, right? The reference to Stallone, under Mao’s regime, was weird too. The ending is slow and boring. Do you think it is appropriate or is the romance a little too much? For instance, at one point during the story the narrator works in sujie coal mine, and he mentions that this brief job would cause many long-lasting ill effects, but he doesn’t say what these are.
Having nothing else to do, I finished this book while waiting for a bus to leave some famous beach resort. Want to Read saving…. It retold an old tale without costruera much that was new to the story. Still, ssijie on the little love story here, there’s something that really bothers me. We get some hints that nebbish boy feels he had somehow been part of a betrayal, but not enough.

The dialogue even spoken is unnatural. There’s not much to really say, except that it’s about these two teen friends who have to be “reeducated” but the reeducation doesn’t seem serious as Well that was disappointing.
