At the same time, he always complains about her lack of education, telling the narrator, that he will teach her the ways of the world and that way, he will make coturera an educated woman. While every part that DID deal with the Cultural Revolution was well-penned and I want more of it, and the little nuances of the moven, especially early on, were endearing, this was in the end a disappointment.

A quick read for the story, but ultimately sort of empty. The thing with the old preacher helping the protagonists with their trouble don’t want to make any spoilers coeturera struck me as not too well thought out, for why would he want to help them with this particular problem?

For me, “Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress” is closer to a short story than anything else, because it has roughly pages which makes it finish-able in one day.

As well as for one of the boys to befriend the little seamstress and knock her up before leaving it up to his friend to try and find her a place for an abortion when it’s illegal to not only have an abortion, but to get married before 25 years of age.
