Carte Blanche by Jeffery Deaver – review

The women contrast each other very well; while Felicity Willing lives up to her last name in terms of Bond’s advances, Bheka Jordaan is a much tougher nut to crack which, of course, makes her all the more fascinating to Bond.
So it’s just taken for granted that Bond has, like the Doctor, somehow regenerated. The funny part is deaer this is jeffdry from a third person POV.
As I read this one, I realized something. Some general thoughts about this book – I’ve never read any works by Deaver before, but I certainly hope he writes more James Bond, as I definitely want to read more. To ask other readers questions about Carte Blancheplease sign up.
Hirani is a complete non-character. It all feels very watered down. He could be cold and arrogant, definitely not a team player. Our Authors See all Authors.
Deaver’s book better than edaver of the other as noted post Fleming works. View all 6 comments. Dunne is outwitted by Bond, which is appropriate, but the whole showdown had more of a sense of the end of a Law And Order episode or at least the first half of an episode than a James Bond adventure.
A Night Action alert calls James Bond away from dinner with a beautiful woman. I should probably reflect on the plot [slight spoiler alert], which is very topical read: Threads collapsed expanded unthreaded. We are gathered here together to witness the joyous union between the James Bond literary franchise, and the successfully established thriller novelist Jeffery Deaver. The rendition aspect was a nice, satisfying touch, but again, not very Bondian that actually felt more like something that should happen in Bond, of course, has an app that will break the code and let him in on the plot, but he only gets a small bit of code at a time.

Mass Market Paperback eBook. Ian Flemming created a character of subtle satirical dry wit that seems unrecognisable in Carte Blanche. His terrified wife made a narrow escape. For someone who is supposed to be the smooth ladies man Deaver totally missed the mark here. She can see how you wouldn’t be the same again after something like that. Even the “deafening” noise of his machines doesn’t diminish his lust for exposition: So for that I took off another star.

Unfortunately her first attempt – within the hallowed walls of the XXX Velvet Venus Theatre – was unexpectedly interesting. After 28 suspense novels, there is no doubt that Deaver knows his way around a thriller plot, and Bond fans should be satisfied with the rollicking pace of ‘s new adventure, which barely gives our hero time to sit down for a martini or glance at his Rolex Oyster Perpetual before the plot twists and lurches off on another page-turning race against the clock.
Royal Marine Commandos abseiled from the roof of the elaborate station to hand Deaver a copy of the novel as he unveiled the book to the world’s press.
Instead, the chief gadget maker is an English Indian named Sanu Hirani. Give Deaver at least some credit for originality. Ophelia Maidenstone is less in the Bond tradition and more the representative of an office romance, with all its potential pleasures and pitfalls. Bond does have a usefully named secretary to whom he can say “Good morning, Blache, but the best comic effects derive from the style’s fanatical commitment to elegant variation.
It’s not the Bond we remember but it is Bond.
