Almost all the crunch is in character creation though. Various suplements for 2nd edition added all rg of subsystems for things like skills, and cusomised special attacks.
I found a copy of Tri-Stat DX that was pretty good. What sort of game do they want to run? What do y’all want to do? I only looked it over like once, when it came out, and I was probably feeling a little burned out on d20 at the rg. I’m pretty sure the core book is available online for free somewhere too.

BESM third edition was licensed and its printed stock was purchased by White Wolf’s imprint Arthaus, who went on to sell the stock and keep a token subpage on their website dedicated to it for a time. beesm
The White Wolf wiki has two entries about the game, one detailing the history game license, another the setting seed from third edition. My partner has started playing in a 5e game I’m DMing and they are getting really into it, but they are primarily an anime person.

Too broad to be practical, in the same way “Modern” let down d20 Modern. For the flavor, though, the first edition was best, but I also enjoyed BESM d20 for what it brought to the d20 rules set. Pulver began writing supplements for what was essentially a fairly simple game, adding a detailed system for the creation of mecha with his book Big Robots, Cool Starships. Its biggest change was a reconstruction of rrpg point system, and inversion of the dice beam, from a roll-under to a roll-over system.
Centauri Knights and Uresia: Roll-under the GM generally tells the player the difficulty modifier then they do the math and tell the GM if they succeeded or not, where roll-over the generally player tells the GM what they rolled, the GM compares with the TN and tells the player if the succeeded or not. It’s an easy-to-learn point buy system that’s also pretty easy to play, and all you need are 2d6.

During the time of the revised second edition, to jump on the bandwagon of besmm d20 SRD craze, they released an abhorrently broken BESMd The announcement stated the company was “extremely confident” that a release date of January would be beem and confirmed that those who pre-ordered and prepaid for the book would be “in besmm hands”, though it was also said that they have not taken on Guardians of Order’s liabilities.
Resources Find the right game for you! BESM may not be the strongest option for you although it is very generic, so it can cover a lot of bases decently. Gundam, One Piece, and Ouran High are generally best served by different games. That’s the edition I have and like a lot, though I have no exposure to the rpy ones. Your ad here, right now: If you’re group is happy with imporvisations and making rulings on the spot than you can have a great game with it. BESM, at least both 2nd and 3rd editions, are perfectly fine systems.
These are supplemented by Attributes, which give the characters unique abilities. This makes for much more ridgedly defined characters, and much larger character sheets. What you see with BESM is a pogression from an extremly rules light game to a moderatly complex game with extrme levels of character detail.
However, there’s a wide variety of systems that do similar things. Powers are more stringetly.
